Kindle by Tina Elders.

I am thrilled.
Twenty five years back late intellectual Mrs. Durgabai Bhagwat described my Marathi version of this booklet as - Adhunik Streeche Upanishad. (Scripture of
a modern woman)
The booklet is short, to the point and in language a mother
uses. It’s a dialogue. And it explains about menarche to 12 years old darling
daughter, written as if a mom is talking to her daughter.
It also advises her to avoid sex till she gets mature enough
to select a partner for her, has decided about her own career and has become
self-sufficient.
I was wondering how the American, British women and their
daughters take it! I was also curious whether the booklet is a necessity in the
first place in such a well literate English speaking society with such a high
level of school coaching with emphasis on sex education. Here in India the
schools don’t teach the subject officially.
I am happy.
My drive to make girls well informed about menses has been
quite a success in Marathi, with 13000 copies sold, (Normal Marathi book sells
hardly 2000 copies) and now there is a flicker of hope in English press.
I am sure now after these five stars that my appeal for this
booklet will be well taken by thousands of moms all over the globe.
Appeal: Intuitively every mom
irrespective of her culture and country wants to advise her 13-14 years
daughter the ‘chastity’. See the impact of the present culture! When I searched
the word ‘chastity’ on Word thesaurus, the
result was blank! BLANK.
This is how
in this age of post-modernism and relativism we all are under influence of a
politically correct world.
We are in
difficult age.
Value based
scientific information is the only answer to this dilemma. And if this
information is given by mom herself, it does wonder. This booklet is meant for
that!
I have a
dream that this booklet will be used by girls all across the globe irrespective
of her country, language and culture. I dream of every woman becoming truly
independent, mature and healthy individual, totally in control of her own body,
mind and spirit. Free from peer pressure for unwanted sexual relationships and
fears! Free from unwanted pregnancies, STI and of course HIV!
